In a recent BrightLocal study, 85 percent of consumers said that they read online reviews of businesses and 79 percent said that they trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations. In other words, referrals are now more likely to be received from the reviews given by complete strangers, not from family and friends. Attorneys Online Inc. (AOI) has been well aware of this growing trend and we have always stressed to our clients the importance of asking their clients for online reviews of the services they provided. Why do we do that?
Why Is It Important To Ask Clients To Write An Online Review?
For the Google search engine, online reviews are factored into the algorithm for determining your page rank and are even highlighted in the results. This means that the more reviews you get, the closer your website will be at the top of the search results page. In addition, Google uses reviews to determine whether your business is legitimate and whether it is viewed positively or negatively.
AOI has studied the Hummingbird algorithm that Google employs for their search engine, and when it comes to reviews, Google has made it increasingly difficult for people to create fake ones. This is great news for AOI and our clients, because Google downgrades the businesses that are creating phony reviews and ranks up the businesses with real reviews.
It is amazing that people give as much credibility to online reviews as to recommendations from friends and family. However, AOI understands that—when marketing legal services—it is essential to adapt to the changes in consumer behavior.
